So I did put James' Milo aside again and began this shrug for myself. I had a bit of a rough start as I had to cast it on a second time after twisting the first try. Even after being extremely careful I still managed to get it twisted the second time but I got it untwisted before it became unsalvageable! It actually is a very pretty lace pattern (when you get it right!!!) and because the rounds are so long it actually seems easier to keep going than some of the other lace I have done but the p3tog tbl are going to be the death of me! I never want to have to do those again but I will have had a lot of practice by the time this is over. I have been working on it for a week and only have 1.5 rounds of lace done and I need to do 4 so my goal of Thanksgiving to be done may be out of reach but I am going to give it my best shot.
I am still reading The Immortal Life of HEnrietta LAcks which is really fascinating. It's amazing how far we have come in the practice of medical ethics in only the last 50 years. This certainly isn't a quick or easy read but it it very enlightening and thought provoking. I'm reserving final judgement until I finish it. I have been listening to a lot of NPR recently and they frequently do book reviews so I have a whole list of books that I am interested in reading. My plan is to take James to story hour at the Library tomorrow and do some interlibrary loan requests since my Amazon wishlist has now made it to 6 pages....
In less exciting news James' ear infection hasn't really gotten better in the last week so we go back to the Dr on Thursday. Since yesterday he has been rubbing fiercely at his right ear and saying that it hurts but he hasn't had any drainage so I question whether or not his tube is still functioning. We have an audiology visit on the 17th so I guess we will find out for sure then. Prayers for healthy ears would certainly be welcome...

What a beautiful shawl pattern! I'm trying a bit of lace knitting for the first time right now but it isn't anywhere as complicated as the stitch you wrote about above :) Can't wait to see more of it.
p3tog tbl is the very reason I stopped making a pattern once, so I admire your fortitude :) It's a beautiful pattern, and I love the colour you've chosen for it.

How are you liking that book? Sounds very intriguing. I'm also an L&D nurse, tough being away from family, but what a great job to have!
